Call for Nominations for CATESOL 2013-2014 Elections

Make a difference - become involved in the CATESOL Board of Directors.
It is never too soon to consider running.

If your answer is yes, you may want to consider nominating yourself or a colleague for a position on the CATESOL Board of Directors. The following positions are open every year: President-Elect, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Level Chairs (one for each level—Elementary, Secondary, Adult, Community College, College/University, IEP, Nevada), Assistant Chapter Council Chair, Nominating Committee Representatives (one from each level and Nevada). Nominees for Assistant Level Chairs and Nevada Representative must come from the southern part of the state in 2011.

Nominees need to be CATESOL members, and nominees for President-Elect have to have served previously on the Board of Directors. Job descriptions are below.


CATESOL Board of Directors Positions
Brief Job Descriptions

President-Elect

  • Serves as an officer on the CATESOL Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for three years, the first as President-Elect, the second as President, and the third as Past-President
  • Attends four to five Board meetings annually, two of which are at the State Conference
  • Attends Executive Committee meetings (as scheduled by the President)
  • The first year, as President-Elect, assists the President
  • The second year, as President, chairs the Board of Directors’ meetings, sets meeting agendas and the general direction of CATESOL for the year, oversees the organization’s activities
  • The third year, as Past-President, serves as liaison with other organizations
  • Must be a member of CATESOL and have previous Board experience

Assistant Secretary

  • Serves as an officer for two years, the first as Assistant Secretary and the second as Secretary
  • Attends four to five Board meetings annually, two of which are at the State Conference
  • As Assistant Secretary, supports the secretary in recording and distributing Board meeting minutes
  • As Secretary, records and distributes the minutes of all meetings, including those of the Executive Committee, using a laptop provided by the Board; manages communication among Board members, including meeting agendas, reports, and Board membership list; serves on the Executive Committee
  • As Secretary, attends Executive Committee meetings (as scheduled by the President).
  • Must be a member of CATESOL.

Assistant Treasurer

  • Serves as an officer for four years, the first as Assistant Treasurer and the second, third, and fourth as Treasurer.
  • Attends four to five Board meetings annually, two of which are at the annual State Conference.
  • As Assistant Treasurer, supports the Treasurer and trains to perform the Treasurer’s duties.
  • As Treasurer, prepares a yearly budget, pays bills and reimbursements, makes deposits, maintains books, works with accountants on taxes, presents financial reports to the Board at each Board meeting, and performs other related duties.
  • As Treasurer, attends Executive Committee meetings (as scheduled by the President).
  • Must be a member of CATESOL.

Assistant Level Chair

(One for each level: Elementary, Secondary, Adult, Community College, College/University, IEP)

  • Serves as an officer for two years, the first as Assistant Level Chair and the second as Level Chair
  • Attends four to five Board meetings annually, two of which are at the annual State Conference
  • As Assistant Level Chair, assists the Chair in planning regional and state conference activities
  • As Level Chair, coordinates level activities, plans level sessions at the annual State Conference and keeps organization informed of sociopolitical concerns of the level
  • As Level Chair, submits level reports to the CATESOL News.
  • For 2008, Assistant Level Chairs must come from the northern part of the state
  • Must be a member of CATESOL.

Assistant Nevada Representative

  • Serves as an officer for two years, the first as Assistant Nevada Representative and the second as Nevada Representative
  • Attends four to five Board meetings annually, two of which are at the annual State Conference
  • As Assistant Nevada Rep, assists the Nevada Rep in planning regional and state conference activities
  • As Nevada Representative, coordinates activities, plans sessions at the annual State Conference and keeps organization informed of sociopolitical concerns related to Nevada
  • As Nevada Representative, submits reports on Nevada issues to the CATESOL News.
  • For 2008, the Assistant Nevada Representative must come from the northern part of Nevada
  • Must be a member of CATESOL.

Assistant Chapter Council Chair

  • Serves as an officer for two years, the first as Assistant Chapter Council Chair and the second as Chapter Council Chair
  • Attends four to five Board meetings annually, two of which are at the annual State Conference
  • As Assistant Chapter Council Chair, assists the Chair in serving as a liaison between chapters and the Board of Directors
  • As Chapter Council Chair, reports to Board on chapter activities, provides guidance to Chapter Coordinators, Plans and presides at the annual meeting of the Council of Chapter Coordinators at the State Conference
  • Must be a member of CATESOL.

Nominating Committee Representative

(One for each level: Elementary, Secondary, Adult, Community College, College/University, IEP, Nevada Representative)

  • Serves on an eight-member committee for one year
  • Attends two Board meetings per year, one at the State Conference and one additional one-day meeting
  • Communicates with committee via e-mail and phone as needed during the remainder of the term
  • Main task is to help identify and contact potential candidates for open positions on the Board of Directors.  Also assists the Chair as needed in preparing the ballot and conducting the election (e.g. helps with counting votes).
  • Must be a CATESOL member for two years.  Previous CATESOL Board experience and familiarity with active organization members desirable.
  • Nominating Committee Representatives may come from the north or south.
