Elementary Level Poetry Contest

Sponsored by Pearson Online Publishers
Purpose: To recognize English language learners enrolled in elementary schools. Contestants must live within the 50-mile radius from the conference site.

Adult Level Essay Contest

Purpose: To recognize ESL students in adult education programs and non-credit community college programs.

Norma Shapiro Memorial Library Award

Purpose: To honor Norma Shapiro’s memory by recognizing an adult ESL teacher who demonstrates excellence in classroom instruction, teacher training, and materials development.

Community College Level Essay Contest

Sponsored by Oxford University Press
Purpose: To recognize ESL students enrolled in community college credit programs.

Graduate Student Research Contest

Sponsored by the University of Michigan Press
Purpose: To recognize new work by graduate students in applied linguistics and language education.

Rick Sullivan Award

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to attend the CATESOL State Conference. Preference will be given to CATESOL members who have not attended a state CATESOL conference outside their local area.

David E. Eskey Memorial Award for Curriculum Innovation

Purpose: To honor Professor Eskey’s memory by recognizing accomplishments related to his professional endeavors (literacy, teacher preparation, research or practice). Submissions are encouraged in a variety of formats including books, articles, curriculum guides, etc.

The Spirit of Teaching Award

Sponsored by Pearson Longman
Purpose: To support and reward exemplary teachers.

CATESOL Orange County Scholarship

Purpose: To promote effective preparation of teachers of English to speakers of other languages.
