THE
PARAMOUNT THEATER
The
Paramount Theatre with its faithfully
restored Art Deco façade and
interior design is a nostalgic trip to
the glamour of the 1920s era. The
Paramount (2025 Broadway, Oakland) was
originally built as a movie palace
during the rise of the motion picture
industry in the late 1920s, and when
it officially opened in 1931 it was
the largest multi-purpose theater on
the west coast. Through repurposing of
the facility as a movie theater, stage
show auditorium, and symphony hall,
the Paramount Theatre has been
renovated/restored three times since
1931 and has operated as a nonprofit
organization since 1975. The theater
was entered into the National Register
of Historic Places on August 14, 1973,
became a California Registered
Historical Monument in 1976, and a
United States Registered Historical
Landmark in 1977.
Please join
us Friday evening, April 13 for a
private, docent-led tour of the facility
from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and a wine and
cheese reception will follow. Attendees
will also have the opportunity (for a
reduced ticket price) to attend an event
following the tour. Although no event is
scheduled at the time of press, this
will likely change, and information
about available shows will be updated.
Tour availability is limited to the
first 30 people who register in advance.
The Paramount is within walking distance
of the Marriott, or you may want to
consider the
free Broadway shuttle buses, which
run every 15 minutes through 1:00 a.m.
Tickets for $32.00 each may be purchased
online in advance through the
registration link and include the wine
and cheese reception. Please note that
the mezzanine floor is only accessible
by stairs - there are no elevators in
the Paramount. Make your reservations
early to ensure participation in this
event. Profits from the event go
directly to support CATESOL.
